Evaluation
Idea
I only had one main idea I never looked into advertising something
else. However, I did look into other perfume adverts to give me some ideas on
what goes into perfume adverts which gave me the idea to perform a
choreographed piece as most of them show how ‘the perfume makes you feel’ and
as mine is called ‘Live in colours’ I felt that it needed to be very energetic.
Looking into other perfume adverts helped me because they gave me
inspiration on how I could make one and it also showed me what is typical in a
perfume advert, for example how it’s mainly women and a lot of effects for
example in the Lancôme advert they have ‘raining diamonds’ showing the perfume
makes you feel upper-class. With future projects I will look into stuff that is
based around what I am doing because, it will help me with my own and how to go
about it.
Coming up with one idea wasn’t a very good idea and I was very
limited on what I could actually do as I didn’t explore as much as I could of
which limited me in making my project and could limit me in my future project.
To improve this in the future I will come up with multiple ideas, so I can find
what is best to do.
Next time I will come up with multiple ideas and evaluate them by
asking what people would like to see in a documentary. Which allows me to
consider all my options and find which one I will choose as my final one
Next time I will definitely consider looking into other products
to advertise not just sticking with the one main idea as it keeps me very
limited and stops me exploring other products.
I believe my product targets my audience well as younger teenage girls
are more into perfume and also, after uploading a survey majority of the
respondents were under 18.
Research
I
researched two print ideas, one more modern and one more vintage. I chose these
to see which one would fit better style and graphic wise, I came to the
conclusion it would be the more modern one as my perfume is bright and
colourful and does not fit the vintage style. I also looked into two visual
based adverts, a Miss Dior one and a Lancôme one, both very different yet very
similar as both of the main characters are female. However, one is more about
love and the other is more about upper class and power.
My research supported my idea because majority
of female perfume adverts are about femininity and power. Next time I will
research into beauty adverts such as makeup to see how they go about it. For example,
Rimmel and Maybelline are very much about power because in some of the adverts
the girls are on bikes or in leather jackets giving the impression of ‘attitude’.
Planning
My planning
went well as I had the risk assessment, shot list and storyboard filled out. I
did have to fill out a release form as I used the dance studio to film so I
asked Anette (dance teacher) to sign it as I asked her.
Issues that occurred were that originally I wasn’t dancing I had somebody else however they unfortunately fell very busy and could not make it to the filming, I was unsure what to do and resulted in using myself in the video.
Issues that occurred were that originally I wasn’t dancing I had somebody else however they unfortunately fell very busy and could not make it to the filming, I was unsure what to do and resulted in using myself in the video.
I stuck to my storyboard however had to choreograph it within two
days as I had decided to film on the Friday of that week.
I
believe that my planning went well, next time I would definitely find other alternative
places to film as the dance studio had a very limited background even though it
helped make me stand out and get the audience focusing on me and not the background.
However, filming it outside may have given the whole video a brighter look
rather than just a black curtain in the background.
Production
Production
The
location was a great place to film as it was a dance studio so it was the
correct environment however, even though the black curtain helped bring the
focus more onto me it was very plain and also we were very limited on how far
to move the camera due to the surrounding area as we didn’t want to get the
doors or the walls or mirrors in the background as it would ruin the shot and
would bring the focus away from the actual purpose of the video. The alternatives
would be at a park as it would be brighter and then, the whole shot would be a
lot brighter and less dull with just a plain background. During filming, the
whole shot was out of focus as we didn’t set ‘auto-focus’ on meaning we had to
re-shoot the entire thing.
We overcame this by re-shooting and turning
auto-focus on, another issue that occurred was that the tripod would keep
dropping the camera meaning we had to try tightening the bottom screw and
loosen the handles screw, this still did not work so when Faye was filming she had
to be very careful on how fast she was moving the camera. Next time I will
definitely make sure the camera is set up correctly and us SWEFF to go about
this as I will be able to make sure everything is set up properly. I will also
make sure the tripod is working properly so it doesn’t just drop halfway
through shooting something.
In my future projects I will consider
where I will be filming everything, so it gives it more variety and doesn’t get
boring and also, so the background isn’t plain.
Next time I will consider my target
audience better to see what they would like to see in a visual so then it
becomes even more appealing to them and possibly even more people so then it will
sell better.
I loved the background music, very upbeat and catchy which goes in turn with the dance routine. The background colours throughout the video went really well too especially helping transition at the end where the product is showcased. Overall great video and keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteyour final advert edit is really epic, it has good pace and the effects are good and relate to the theme of the product which is colours. the dancing is well choreographed and it definitely looks like a perfume advert as they usually involve a woman showing how the perfume makes them feel. good job!
ReplyDeleteKnow the difference between "film" and "project" before I start reading all this for no reason you NORBET
ReplyDeleteThe main areas for improvement I can suggest are having a lot more cuts to really make it dynamic and match the upbeat music. Should you do something similar to this another time, I strongly recommend looking at the way Korean music videos are filmed and edited. Since it is almost entirely dance-based, that would fit your work.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing would be the green screen smoke bomb effects. They feel very placed on top of the image and although you have synced them to the beat of the music, they just feel a little bit off. I absolutely love the idea of them being there, so I would say that the in-sync thing is awesome, but play around with scale and position :)
However, the choices of outfit is very appropriate for the video, the light leaked really made the video more visually appealing, the choice of using a dolly camera technique keeps the energy flowing throughout the video, and the variety of angles makes this video really nice to watch.
Great video, great choreography, and well done ! :)
Like the fast paced editing and the addition of the colours. Good music choice and works very well as an advert.
ReplyDeleteGreat advert. I enjoyed the editing and i liked the camera work.
ReplyDeleteVery well edited and choreographed. The colours went well with the video and the song did too.
ReplyDeletewell done.
